Information handled by this website
The website uses a cookie to remember your choice of English or Urdu. You can remove it through your browser settings. Removing it may reset your language preference.
The website does not use advertising trackers or any third-party tracking script. Fonts and images are served from this site's own server rather than loaded from other services.
How visits are counted
To know which pages are read and in which language, this site counts visits itself, using a small piece of its own code. Nothing is sent to Google, to an analytics company, or to anyone else.
Each page view records the address of the page without anything after the question mark, the language, whether the screen is phone-sized, tablet-sized or larger, and — if you arrived from another website — the name of that website but not the page or search that brought you. Some visits also report how quickly the page appeared, so that slow pages can be found and fixed.
Nothing is stored on your device. There is no analytics cookie and nothing is written into your browser, so nothing here can follow you between websites, between devices, or from one day to the next. To count people rather than page views, the server turns your internet address and browser description into a short scrambled code that cannot be turned back, and which is different tomorrow. It is an estimate, and it is treated as one.
If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal, nothing is counted at all.
These records are kept for at most ninety days and then deleted. They are never sold, shared or combined with your account.
Searches
What you type into the search box is recorded, along with how many results it found — not as you type, only when you press search. This is how we learn which books people are looking for, and especially which searches find nothing, which is usually a book we have listed under a name nobody uses.
If you are signed in, the record is linked to your account for ninety days and then that link is removed permanently. If you are not signed in, it is linked only to the short daily code described above, which expires the same night. The searches themselves are kept for two years and then deleted.
Please do not put anything private in the search box. It is a search box for a library catalogue, and what is typed into it is stored.
If you create an account
An account is needed only to read a book online. Creating one records your name, your email address, your password in an encrypted form that cannot be read back, your preferred language, and whether your email address has been confirmed. While you are signed in, a session cookie keeps you signed in.
Sign-ins, failed sign-in attempts and password changes are recorded so that misuse can be noticed. Where an internet address is part of that record it is stored only as an irreversible hash, not as the address itself. You can change your details or delete your account at any time from your account page; deleting it removes the account and its sign-in credentials. If you have requested a printed copy of a book, the record of that request is kept — it is explained in the next section.
If you request a printed copy
Requesting a printed book records your name, email address, telephone number and delivery address, what you asked for, how you preferred to pay, and anything you wrote in the notes. All of it is needed to agree the cost with you and to send the parcel. No payment is taken on this website and no bank or card details are ever stored here.
This record is kept permanently. It is the account of what was sent, to whom and at what price, and it stays after an order is delivered, cancelled or returned, and after any account you may have is deleted. It is never sold, shared or used to send you anything you did not ask for, and it is not used for marketing. Only the site's administrators can see it.
If you believe a request should be corrected or removed, write to us through the Contact page with the reference number, which begins with SAA and appears in the email confirming your request.
Server logs
The server records ordinary web-server logs — the page requested, the time, and the internet address the request came from — which is how a fault or an attack is investigated. These are kept for six months and then deleted. They are not used to build a picture of any visitor.
Email enquiries
When you send an email, your email address and the information you choose to include are received through the email service used for correspondence. Please send only the information needed for your enquiry.
